What is a Dr. Bike Event?
A Dr. Bike event is where our mobile bike mechanics come to you and carry out bike health checks and basic bike maintenance on any bikes. It is Triage for bikes. Our mechanics will conduct a thorough survey of the bike, perform basic life support such as fixing punctures and broken chains and monitor vital functions such as braking and gear shifting. The mechanic will work for a maximum of 30 minutes per bike.
There is only a certain amount that our mechanics can do in this time. Bikes that are particularly dirty, have more complex problems that would need more time or require tools not carried by our mobile mechanics can be booked into our workshop for further treatment.
It is important to understand that this is not a full mechanical service.
Where will the Dr. Bike event take place?
We come to you. We can deliver Dr. Bike events at most locations including work places, educational establishments, public places, events and festivals. All we need is room for a VW Transporter van with awning and a 3M x 3M gazebo which is approximately the area of 3 car parking spaces.
When can a Dr. Bike event be delivered?
A Dr. Bike can be delivered at any time including evenings and weekends.
How much does a Dr. Bike event cost?
The cost of a Dr. Bike event is £40 per hour per mechanic. The minimum booking time is 4 hours. An extra mechanic can be booked for just £30 per hour
A mechanic can service 2-3 bikes per hour as not every bike needs the full 30 minutes allowed per bike. Our mechanics average 10 bikes per mechanic per 4 hour session.
We deliver a number of fully funded Dr. Bike sessions through CyclingUK’s Big Bike Revival program. These events are usually hosted at Community Fire Stations with help from the local council’s active travel department.
